1. Information We Collect

When you use FundMyUniverse, we collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, and payment details. We also collect information automatically, including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited.

For campaign organizers, we collect identity verification information through our Stripe Connect integration to comply with anti-fraud and anti-money-laundering regulations. For political campaign donors, we collect additional information (address, occupation, employer) required by the Federal Election Commission.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To process donations and payouts securely
• To verify organizer identities and prevent fraud
• To comply with legal obligations, including FEC reporting for political campaigns
• To send you transactional emails about your campaigns and donations
• To improve the platform and detect misuse
• To display your public profile and campaign pages to donors

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

• Service Providers: Stripe (payments & verification), Clerk (authentication), and our hosting infrastructure
• Legal Compliance: When required by law, court order, or regulatory authority (e.g., FEC reporting)
• Campaign Organizers: Donor names and messages (unless marked anonymous) are visible on campaign pages
• Public Profiles: Your display name and campaign activity are publicly visible

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with our legal obligations. Donation records are retained for at least 7 years for financial and tax compliance purposes. You may request deletion of your account data by contacting us, subject to legal retention requirements.

5. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for data in transit and at rest. Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe and never stored on our servers. Verification documents are handled by Stripe and subject to their security practices. Despite these measures, no system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication (managed by Clerk) and session management. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser, but this will prevent you from signing in.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate personal data
• Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Data portability (receive your data in a machine-readable format)

8. Children

FundMyUniverse is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of FundMyUniverse after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
